- GRANDDAUGHTER #5Christmas Eve, 2010. Firelight and candlelight. The tree by the fireplace spilling over with presents, its warm glow pushing back the early darkness of December. Christmas concoctions spread across the dining room table. The house brimming with the bubbling chatter of grandchildren. How can they possibly wait another minute to dig into those surprises?

Why The Aardvark?
Who on earth would want to read something written by an aardvark? Well, you might be surprised at the talents of this ignominious and underappreciated mammal. Don’t be put off by his humble appearance. The aardvark is a keen observer and has an amazing ability to respond to his environment. He digs toward his goals tirelessly, maintaining balance and stability in spite of challenging obstacles. Along with all of this goes his notable sense of smell and hearing. He’s a great role model for us aspiring writers.
In aardvark fashion, I strive to write with versatility. I draw from my personal life experience to reach my readers. And I work to manipulate the tools of the trade – imagery, metaphor, sensory input – to bring home my point. It’s my delight to share what I have learned and experienced. If you are reading this, I’m honored! And I’d love to hear from you.
If you see Alphonse, the cute little fellow in the circle at the top of a blog, he might be ready to put a smile o n your face. Thanks to my brilliant and artistic grandson for creating him. And thanks to my granddaughters for holding my hand through my many technical challenges.
