GRANDDAUGHTER #2

We bring her home for the night and I teach her how to make omelets. The next day is ours also; assembling chili and cookies. Then a stop at the Audobon where we hike out to the swamp and look for frogs. She can pick them up with her bare hands, but today the frogs are not waiting around for her. She teaches me to whistle through a blade of grass, something I have never learned. It takes me awhile but I get it. From somewhere in the woods a bird returns the whistle! Kind of magical. We move on to the fire trail and hike up to the cliffs for a birds eye view of the lake, shimmering in the afternoon sun. Then ice cream at Goldenrod. Of course!

A hike up to Mt. Monadnock with mom and her cousins. She and Grandson #5 are first to the top. As we struggle to the top with Granddaughter #9 , who is not thrilled with hiking, she asks other hikers if they have seen a middle aged woman and an older woman on the trail. We laugh as we realize that she is talking about us! I guess it’s true. Ice cream for all on the way home ends the day just right.
