GRAB FEBRUARY

We have survived what in my opinion is the marathon month of the year. Yes, when I look out the window at 5 PM on a clear day, daylight still lingers. And we are already three days into February, with only 25 days to go until we flip the calendar to March and can at least dream of daffodils, soaring kites and soft breezes. But I don’t want to miss the singular delights of February. So here goes.
I will celebrate this fleeting month in the following ways:
Wear red and pink in concert
Make a cherry cheesecake or cobbler
Teach a child how to make lacy valentines
Buy pink and white carnations for myself, adding a penny to the vase to prolong their lives
Rake flowerbeds prematurely if they peek through the snow
Watch a romantic movie with my best friend
Send a valentine to five people I have not seen for 20 years
Cook red cheesy food (Lasagna? Spaghetti?) in large quantities and share it
Sing a love song loudly to my significant other, (yours may be human, canine or feline) (a favorite is Nat King Cole’s “That’s All” circa 1952 – lovely lyrics)
Give an unexpected kiss to someone in my COVID safe circle
Frost cookies deeply with pink icing and sprinkles
Find a way to say “I love you” to someone every day, even the same person
Ponder the mystery that love exists in our space/time continuum
Rejoice that Spring is on the way!
