Her name is Shadow, and she is our new grandpup. Oh, she is a love! I am smitten. She belies her breed name, Goldendoodle, by sporting a coal black coat of silky curls that ruffle perfectly in my hands.
She’s a bundle of energy and will endlessly empty wastebaskets, hunt down particles of food on my kitchen floor, chase empty plastic containers in a frenzy. She loves to roll them around, and was especially taken with an empty strawberry milkshake cup. She will hike for hours with my daughter, her proud owner. The bond between them was instant. And we can almost see her growing. I could never keep up with her, any more than I could keep up with a toddler at this point in my life. But her visits are a delight. And they create some mysteries. My husband came out of the bathroom asking, “Why is there sand in the shower?” “Don’t be silly,” I retorted. But I went to look. Yes indeed, there was sand in the shower, and a perfect paw print on the formerly white bathmat. It was true. Shadow loves to get in the shower.
A new adventure for us!
