This tiny silvery green helicopter frequents my deck on these hot summer afternoons, taking advantage of his feeder. The other day he and his wife (perhaps? I have no way of knowing) flew straight at my head in some sort of attempt at intimidation. Such courage. I’m not sure of their intent but I stood my ground. It is, after all, my deck and they are guests. Plus I am a lot bigger than they are.
He’s a notable creature. Helicopters can’t achieve his flying efficiency. He weighs less than a nickel, can see further than I can, remembers every flower he has visited (not sure how they figured that one out), can fly in any direction, and has been known to dive at the rate of 50 MPH. His itty bitty heart beats 1260 times per minute. I’m impressed. So I ponder him, because COVID has forced me to notice minutiae in order to keep my sanity. The impersonal plus time plus chance? Hmm….
You might consider setting up a hummingbird feeder. It’s not a cure for the virus, but it helps.
