WINTRY MIX

Hazy sun in a dirty gray sky, clouds pregnant with snow. A trio of freezing rain, snow showers, and wintry mix is on the way. Wintry mix. The very words send shivers up my spine. Icy crystals falling from a monochromatic gray sky. Slippery roads to navigate. Cumbersome jackets, boots and mittens within reach. Don’t tuck that long underwear away just yet. Here in New Hampshire we brace ourselves for another winter storm, knowing that the first day of spring is weeks away and miles off. And, heaven forbid, March has been known to be one of our snowier months. Don’t even think about it.
Some mixes make me happy. Brownie mix. A mixed bouquet of bright flowers. Christmas mix, a lovely conglomeration of sweet red and green tidbits. Trail mix, for munching and crunching on a woodland hike. Recording mix, a combination of the best blend of sweet sounds. Mixed fruit – juicy berries, ripe red apples, exotic kiwi rounds. But wintry mix? Not so much. Pass the hot chocolate mix, please! And maybe some mixed nuts to go with that popcorn.
