DRUG STORE CHRISTMAS

It was Christmas Eve and I was crying. Hard. The U. S .Navy had moved us thousands of miles away from our families to the tip of south Florida. No sleighbells ringing, not even a snowflake in sight, and we were out of money till the next pay check. No gifts this year. I went into the bedroom, scooped my baby boy up out of his crib for a cuddle, and felt profoundly sorry for myself.

Suddenly i sensed an empty hush in our little duplex. Where had my husband gone at this late hour? It wasn’t long till i heard the back door open and there he was, a drug store Christmas in his arms. The next thing I knew, I was there too.

It was a very merry Christmas.

Now, in this season of so much, I’m thinking about drug store Christmases. Through the years, I’ve had a lot of fun sending a silly little package to someone who is alone and not expecting any Christmas surprises. It can all be done at the local drug store. You might enjoy giving it a try this year; you never know what might come of it.

Joy to the world!
