FEBRUARY PERKS

Looks like we are 1/4 of the way through this pivotal

month, with twilights stretching out and a warm breeze now and then. The Finnish calendar calls this month “Helmikuu”, Pearl Month” and we saw why in Virginia yesterday morning, waking to a glaze of ice on every branch. How to celebrate these last few weeks of winter?

Don’t wish it away. Number 1 Rule. Live the Moment. That’s why we call it the Present.

Watch for the little green shoots working their way out of the dark soil. Miracles happen again.

Find some children, bake Valentine heart cookies, paint with tinted frosting and tiny brushes {tiny hands can manage this}, give to the neighbors whatever you can’t consume.

Host a Valentine potluck with all red, pink and white dishes. A challenge. There’s always spaghetti or cacciatore. Or buy pizza.

Send a fancy Valentine to an old friend you haven’t seen in years. You never know what might happen!

Wear everything red that you own.

Go to the Dollar Tree and fill a small basket with oddments and treats for some lucky child, or an older person who lives alone.

Write a ridiculous poem for someone you love.

You can probably come up with many more and better ideas!

HAPPY FEBRUARY!
